Cognitive and Physical Development

Why is it important to thoroughly know the cognitive and physical development of your students?  Because it separates you from the rest of the teachers who are only focusing on teaching how they were taught and expecting their students to learn only how they learn.  A general overview of cognitive and physical development will enable you to modify your lesson plans to the differentiated learners in the classroom.  Many of you are doing a wonderful job making connections between learning and learners, and I fear that some of you are only completing each assignment with the expectation of checking yet another course off your list.
I encourage you to take this opportunity to develop into a stronger teacher candidate by making important connections between classroom management, cognitive and physical development, and the development of critical thinking skills.  Music is a tool to unlock such possibilities, reaching students who would have been left behind otherwise.
Teaching is not a job.  It's a lifestyle.  We should all be living to teach rather than teaching to live (earn a living).
